Chile’s National Wine Day fills central Santiago. November brings the world’s best vineyards
3–4 September, free, Barrio La Bolsa: 20 Maipo Valley wineries. Warm-up for World’s 50 Best Vineyards, first time in Santiago this November.
The capital got a free street of Maipo bottles.
El Mostrador, 2 September: Día Nacional del Vino ran Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September, 12:00 to 18:00, in Barrio La Bolsa. Organised by the Gobierno de Santiago and its regional corporation. Twenty Maipo Valley wineries. Ten local makers. Folk, cooking shows, enotourism. No ticket.
Governor Claudio Orrego: people should meet the traditions again and raise a glass of Maipo. Extra reason this year — in November Santiago hosts The World’s 50 Best Vineyards for the first time. Journalists, critics, tourism people will see the wines and the city up close.
The day itself has been official since 2015. It marks Pedro de Valdivia’s 1545 letter to Carlos V, the first documented wine reference in Chilean territory.
A free downtown pour is not a medal. It is how a capital rehearses for a global vineyard list.
Mini-concept: a national wine day in the street is tourism with a cork. The 50 Best landing in November is the next act.
A flavoured can never needed Barrio La Bolsa. These twenty Maipo houses did — and the gate was free.
Remember: 20 Maipo wineries downtown, and Santiago gets World’s 50 Best Vineyards in November.
