Margaux picked Sauvignon Blanc on 7 August
Château Margaux started whites after a hot, dry summer. Troplong Mondot started reds on 19 August, the earliest pick they have ever done there. That is two famous clocks, not an official regional record.
White fruit first. Then the reds. Both early.
Château Margaux started Sauvignon Blanc on 7 August, Vinetur reported. Mid-veraison sat nine days ahead of last year. The vines looked healthy after heat and low water. The whites were aromatic, with freshness kept. The reds also read early.
At Château Troplong Mondot, reds started on 19 August. That is the earliest pick they have ever done there, nine days ahead of already-early 2025. The berries were small and concentrated.
That is two famous clocks, not an official all-time record for the whole of Bordeaux. Agreste’s first 2026 crop estimate is held to 8 September. WineNews noted that the usual Italy and France vintage forecasts are not expected this year.
An early pick is a decision about sugar, acid and heat. It is not automatically a small vintage, and it is not automatically a great one. It is a summer that moved the calendar.
Mini-concept: harvest week is a thermometer, not a trophy.
A flavoured can has no veraison. These berries were small and early after a hot, dry summer.
Remember: Troplong Mondot reds on 19 August, the earliest pick they have ever done.
