Vergelegen wins KFM Best Wine Farm Experience two years running
The Somerset West estate took the public-voted KFM title again. About 160,000 visitors a year come for gardens, wine and a cellar door open daily 08:30–17:00.
A wine farm is also a visit. Vergelegen just won that job twice.
wine.co.za reports the Somerset West estate — in the Stellenbosch Cape winelands — named “Best Wine Farm Experience” in the public-voted KFM Best of the Cape Awards for a second consecutive year. Managing director Wayne Coetzer thanked visitors — and credited staff who make the day work, heart and soul. KFM announcer Carl Wastie put it simply: you can come for the gardens and stay for the wine, food and service. That mix is why people voted.
About 160,000 people visit in a year. The estate is open daily 08:30–17:00, last entry 16:00. Tickets are R30 for adults and R10 for scholars and pensioners. Pensioners enter free on Mondays.
A March fire destroyed the Stables restaurant. Rebuild is due in November, with a refined menu and 80 covers. The children’s play area is being upgraded too. Hospitality is part of the wine, not a side show.
Mini-concept: cellar-door is a product with hours, a ticket, gardens and a table — not a free extra beside the bottle.
A can has no garden path. A Cape estate day does.
Hold the pattern: 160,000 visits a year are the farm’s other harvest.
