Montilla takes Spain’s city-of-wine title for 2027

ACEVIN’s board, on 30 September, named Montilla Spanish City of Wine for 2027. The mayor says the bid beat Jerez. The year follows Cambados 2024 and Requena 2026, and he ties it to wine tourism and a museum whose walls are finished.

ACEVIN’s board, on 30 September, gave Montilla the title of Spanish City of Wine for 2027.

The note went out the next day from Alcázar de San Juan. Montilla, in Córdoba, sits in the Andalusian campiña. Its fortified wines are made almost only from Pedro Ximénez. With its neighbours it belongs to the Montilla-Moriles wine route, one of 38 routes ACEVIN certifies. The city title, created in 2023, sits beside those routes. It is annual, and it pauses when Spain hosts the European City of Wine. Cambados held it in 2024. Requena holds it through 2026. Montilla takes the year after.

Mayor Rafael Llamas thanked the board for preferring Montilla to Jerez’s bid. He wants 2027 tied to wine tourism, to Pedro Ximénez, and to a push that steadies the local trade. The programme runs from January to December, with an opening gala and a closing one, plus events from Spain’s network of wine cities. The candidacy’s line was “Montilla, from the kingdom of Pedro Ximénez to the world”.

He also tied the year to the future Wine Museum. The building works are finished, he said; what remains is fitting out the rooms, so the opening can land with this new stage.

Mini-concept: a city-of-wine title is a calendar, not a new denomination. It spends a year pointing visitors at a grape the region already grows.

Keep: if you travel for the title, ask whether the museum is open. The walls are done. The display is not, yet.

Remember: ACEVIN board, 30 Sep 2026; Montilla (Córdoba) for 2027, ahead of Jerez; after Cambados 2024 and Requena 2026; programme all of 2027; museum works finished, fit-out still on.
