Félix Solís just bought three old Rioja names out of a liquidation

Federico Paternina, Lagunilla and Rioja Santiago come out of the Marqués de la Concordia concurso. Muriel took the Concordia brand. No purchase price published.

Three old Rioja names just changed hands in a liquidation, not a vintage launch.

Félix Solís bought Federico Paternina, Lagunilla and Rioja Santiago out of the concurso of United Wineries / Marqués de la Concordia. The online auction ran in late July, through IAG Auction. No purchase price was published.

Muriel Wines took the Marqués de la Concordia brand itself, with its trademark bundle, and said the name keeps its own identity.

Solís already had Castillo de Albai and Arnegui in the DO. The group is big in Toro, Valdepeñas and Rueda. CEO Félix Solís Yáñez: the three names are "part of the history of Rioja wine" and should still matter.

Rioja Santiago was founded in 1870. Paternina was a Rioja Alta house for decades. Lagunilla has more than a century on the clock.

Mini-concept: a liquidation is how historic labels move when cash runs out. The name on the bottle can outlive the company that made it.

A flavoured can has no 1870. These three names were bought so they don't die in a filing cabinet.

Remember: three Rioja houses out of a concurso, and nobody published the price.
