Campaigns ask shoppers to choose Bulgarian wine. The planting ledger asks whether the vineyard can answer.
According to EAVW figures in the Ministry’s April 2026 harvest PDF, newly planted vineyards total 248 ha. Young vines not yet in production are only 1.5% of farm vineyard area. Meanwhile harvested area fell 5.4% and grape output fell 14% in 2025.
Mini-concept: structural renewal is slower than marketing slogans. 248 ha is a real number — and a small one against tens of thousands of productive hectares. Ageing blocks and climate stress need replacement vines, not only posters.
For intentional drinkers, “buy Bulgarian” works best when the next generation of vines is in the ground. Your bottle choice supports growers; planting rates decide whether that choice still exists in 2035.
Pattern: 248 ha new, 1.5% young non-bearing. Tiny renewal versus a big ask on the shelf.
Keep the pattern in mind: a place, a number, and a reason to open the bottle. That is how wine stays a choice on a thinner calendar — not background noise, not a random can.
