DWWA 2026: Chile Platinum celebrates historic País revival

Decanter’s DWWA 2026 Platinum list includes a Chilean País that flags the old-vine comeback — authenticity for drinkers bored of anonymous international reds.

País was once the workhorse grape of colonial Chile. Platinum ink says it is a star again.

Decanter’s Decanter World Wine Awards 2026 Platinum winners included Chilean bottles that spotlight historic País — one of roughly four Chilean Platinums in the coverage wave. The story judges tell is old-vine authenticity: bush vines, light to medium frames, and flavours that feel local rather than copy-paste Cabernet. Curious drinkers get a reason to ask for Itata and Maule names on purpose.

Mini-concept: a Platinum medal is a shortlist inside a shortlist. It does not replace your tongue, but it signals that blind tasters found clarity and character at a high bar. For a revived heritage grape, that sticker fights supermarket anonymity.

Choosing País over a flavoured can is choosing a living history class. The vine may be older than the brand. The pour asks for food and attention, not a party mix.

Revival still needs hectares, gentle farming and importers willing to list “weird” reds. Medals help the first conversation. Cellar doors finish it.

Keep the pattern: DWWA Platinum for Chilean País, old-vine authenticity, curious-drinker lane — heritage grapes win when judges and guests agree they taste like somewhere.
