UK more open to winter Provence rosé than France
Jeany Cronk: strong winter sales show export markets rewriting seasonality faster than domestic habits still tied to spring–summer pink.
Rosé’s calendar is cultural, not biological.
Jeany Cronk of Maison Mirabeau told the drinks business the UK had a good winter season for sales as preconceived “summer only” ideas start to shift. She added that the UK market looks more open to year-round Provence rosé than France, where the drink is still tied more tightly to spring and summer. That split matters for growers: export habits can rewrite seasonality faster than home routines.
Mini-lesson: seasonality is a habit loop. If drinkers in one market pour pink with winter food, the category stops being a weather product and becomes a choice product — closer to wine’s strength against seasonal RTDs.
For young drinkers in cold months, a dry Provence bottle with a meal is an intentional “why tonight” moment. A random summer-coded can rarely is.
Pattern: UK winter openness versus French summer habit. Exports teach the calendar. That consumer cue is simple: open the bottle when the night has a reason, not when the fridge only has cold sugar.
