US Champagne revenue +14.7% — sparklers lead while the category stays soft

WSWA SipSource: Champagne revenue rose 14.7% in the last three months, Prosecco +10.2%, Sauvignon Blanc +3.2%. Total wine and spirits still −6.8% volume / −6.1% revenue over the 12 months to July.

Bubbles are doing the heavy lifting while the rest of the aisle still slips.

Shanken News Daily reports WSWA SipSource data: over the last three months Champagne revenue jumped 14.7%, Prosecco grew 10.2% and Sauvignon Blanc rose 3.2%. That bright strip sits inside a harder year. Total wine and spirits volume fell 6.8% in the 12 months through July, with revenue down 6.1%; the latest three months were still −6.2% volume and −6.1% revenue.

Wine above $16 is holding up better than cheaper tiers, and the $50+ wine band is up 0.9% over 12 months. On-premise (−2.8% volume over 12 months) is beating off-premise (−7.5%). Spirits look weaker still: three-month volume and value down 5.7% and 7.1%, with every price tier off more than 5% in revenue and the $50–$99.99 band down 9.5%.

WSWA’s own read: the gap between volume and revenue points to pressure on premiumisation as shoppers chase value — yet Champagne’s three-month revenue spike shows celebration spend still finds a flute.

Mini-concept: category softness and brand brightness can share one shelf. When the whole wine aisle shrinks, the bottle that still grows is often the one tied to a moment, not to everyday volume.

Keep: Champagne +14.7% / Prosecco +10.2% / SB +3.2% (3 months); total W+S −6.8% vol / −6.1% rev (12 months to July); on-prem −2.8% vs off-prem −7.5%.

Remember: Champagne revenue +14.7% last 3 months; total wine+spirits still −6.8% vol / −6.1% rev to July; on-premise beating off-premise.
