The Wine Box opens a Malindi cellar door on Lamu Road

Dan Davies’ Kenyan specialist adds a Sabaki Centre boutique in Malindi — the third coastal site after Diani and Kilifi — with 500+ labels, climate-controlled storage and hospitality support. Languedoc biodynamics via Gérard Bertrand joins the coastal push.

Kenya’s coast just got another address where wine is stored like wine, not like warm beer.

The People’s Tribune reports that The Wine Box — founded by Dan Davies — has opened at Sabaki Centre on Lamu Road in Malindi. It is the brand’s third coastal cellar door after Diani and Kilifi, sitting beside Nairobi shops in Karen and Lavington. The brief is practical: more than 500 labels, temperature-controlled storage for the tropics, and a hospitality desk that builds lists, trains staff and opens Private Collection allocations for villas, chefs and boutique hotels.

Mini-concept: a coastal wine network is logistics first. Heat and humidity punish corks and colour; climate control is the product, not a luxury. Whites, rosés and seafood-friendly bottles lead the shelf, but the list stays international — everyday pours beside rarer vintages.

At the opening, Bourrier Henry of Gérard Bertrand framed the Languedoc biodynamic push for East Africa: craft and sustainable farming meeting a market that now asks for appellation, vintage and provenance. “Tasting Tuesdays” keep the room curious rather than snobby.

For millennials and Gen Z on the coast, the choice is simple. A chilled, correctly stored bottle with dinner beats a warm mystery litre when the night is about food and company.

Remember: Sabaki Centre Malindi = third coastal Wine Box after Diani and Kilifi; 500+ labels + climate control + hospitality lists.
